How Long Does It Take For A Beginner To Learn Forex?
Learning to trade the forex market is not hard. Trading the forex market is hard. This is affected by who taught you, how they taught you, from where you got your information and how you apply that information.
Answering this question is very difficult as it depends on a thousand factors. I say that because this is all based on people’s individual opinions and experiences. Therefore, I will tackle this question looking at where I come from in terms of learning how to trade.
It took me 1 year, ten months or so to come to a point where I believed that I’m a complete professional forex trader. In my first year of learning forex, 2017, I was still in college. I was half focused on school and half focused on forex. This is where I experienced the harshness and brutality of the market. I was all over the place looking for the holy grail of trading, the perfect trading strategy that doesn’t lose. Sadly, I thought I was gonna make big money quick and live the “Instagram life”.
After I quit college to fully focus on forex beginning of 2018, I started learning afresh as if I did not know anything. I bought a couple of online forex courses. It then took me seven to eight full months of everyday hard learning and practicing on a demo account. I was obsessed with the markets.
As I was trading, I managed to hit my first month of being profitable in a real account towards end of 2018. This was a phase where I was still testing myself because one month is really not enough to conclude that I’m consistent. Ever since, I have not looked back and I have grown from strength to strength.
Now here’s my recommendation for beginners: one month of learning the basics and a strategy that has been proven to have an edge over the market. Six months of demo trading until you have proven to yourself to be profitable. Then lastly 3 months of live account trading to ensure you have grasped the skill. These 3 months is to confirm if you are consistent and profitable or if you still need some time to tweak some few things. In total this would be 10 months plus, which I think is suitable for someone who is fully focused on trading. If you are working or schooling, I think it would take you between 1 and 2 years to master the craft.
